5/24/2023 0 Comments Books like havoc at prescott high![]() None of the main characters is under the age of seventeen. There’s underage drinking, marijuana use, sexual situations, and other adult scenarios. The characters are brutal, the emotions real, the f-word in prolific use. This book might be about high school students, but it is not what I would consider young adult. It’s not quite as gritty as I Was Born Ruined (the first book in my Death by Daybreak Motorcycle Club series).Īny kissing/sexual scenes featuring Bernie are consensual. If you’ve read my other two high school romance series-Rich Boys of Burberry Prep or Adamson All-Boys Academy-then just know this one is a bit more intense, and character growth/redemption are needed more than ever. Might be hard though, considering the Havoc Boys are dicks. ![]() ![]() If the love interests in this story want to win the main character over, they’ll have to earn it. This book in no way condones bullying, nor does it romanticize it. It also means that for a portion of this book, the love interests are total assholes there are also flashbacks of past incidents involving bullying. What does that mean exactly? It means our female main character, Bernadette Blackbird, will end up with at least three love interests by the end of the series. Havoc at Prescott High is a reverse harem, high school, enemies-to-lovers/love hate/bully romance. ![]()

The poem is structured like a sonnet, that is four quatrains with a rhyming couplet to finish, making fourteen lines. Owen chose the sonnet structure for this poem, no doubt because, traditionally, the form has been used for serious and solemn subjects - death, religious themes, deep love. Owen’s “Anthem” implicitly contrasts with the patriotic songs sung by those caught up in the nationalist fervour of the war. ![]() However, an anthem can also be a choral song or religious chant. The one most pertinent to this poem is an unusually rousing popular song that typifies or is identified with a particular subculture, movement, or point of view. Many were poorly equipped and suffered severe combat trauma. As often in war, WWI soldiers typically fought without knowing the real political reasons behind the conflict, and suffered terrible experiences that civilians could not grasp. That’s why the film adaptation of Cameron Post retains the above quote from the book it’s an emotional high point and a thesis statement sputtered by a man laid low by his stumbling, and in its way it contradicts the title. Much of being a graceful adult involves giving people the leeway to stumble through these questions the same as you do. The period is about staring the sheer, terrifying bigness of the world in the eye, and if one gets through it with any maturity you realize that life’s scary less because there’s no answers and more because there’s questions you can’t even grasp.
